Facebook App |
Facebook has taken a page from the likes of Skype and BlackBerry Messenger Voice as it now offers a “free call” feature on its Messenger mobile app.
The feature, currently only available in the United States, allows
users to call each other through the Messenger app through WiFi
connection. This avoids hefty carrier call charges.
Apart from the geographic limitations, voice calls on Messenger
are only allowed among users who have the app. They cannot call a
Facebook friend who is logged in through desktop, or call a landline or
other mobile phones apart from Messenger-installed iPhones.
Facebook has no word yet on whether this free call feature will be
rolled out to other countries or it will be available on the Android
version of the app.
