"Limited Xiaomi Phone 2 Pre-Production Units to Be Released"

China-based phone maker Xiaomi has announced it will be selling a limited number of pre-production Xiaomi Phone 2 handsets, targeting users who are keen and dedicated enough to perform last-minute checks before mass production.

Only 600 of these Android Jelly Bean smartphones will be made available online on September 22nd at 10 a.m. local time (September 21, 10 p.m. EST) for CNY1,999 (US$310).

However, this offer is not available to the general Chinese public, but to the 1,200 expert members of the Xiaomi and MIUI online communities.

By the time the mass-produced Xiaomi Phone 2 is available (expected to be at the second half of October), those who bought the engineering units can simply swap them for a 16GB or 32GB version of the Phone 2
