"Businesses Can Now Add Events on Foursquare"

Manager Events App

While Foursquare users scramble to earn badges and become the mayor of that coffee shop down the block, that local cafe could barely do anything on its Foursquare apart from offering free drinks to newbies and free upgrades to the mayor.

The location-based app now offers a new way for businesses to attract customers: they can now add events to their venues, whether these are trivia nights, book signings, comedy open mics, fundraisers, whatever. This feature was used to be for movies, concerts, and sporting events. Users can check-in to the actual event at your venue, as well as record what they are doing and where they are.
This new feature is not only important for business and customers, but also for Foursquare as a company. “This is yet another deep data point that the company is collecting about our tendencies,” TechCrunch’s Drew Olanoff wrote.
What he meant was that the app can make its Promoted Updates and Explore capability better targeted toward the user.
