| Google Amber Alerts |
Google announced that
it would include Amber alerts in its search engine and maps. The
software giant hopes to increase awareness of missing children and helps
them in their safe return.
These alerts, which are set up with the help of the National Center
for Missing and Exploited Children, will include data about new cases
through Google Public Alerts program.
Amber alerts will appear on Google Search and Map, both on desktop
and mobile, when a user searches for related information in a particular
area where a child has recently been reported missing. These alerts
will also show up if users search for related subjects like the name of a
missing child or just typing “child abductions.”
The alerts will also provide information about the missing child and
details about the case, such as where the victim was last seen or
information about the person believed to have abducted the child.
The service is currently available in the United States only. Google plans to bring it over to Canada and Europe as well.
