Disney - Lucasfilm |
If George Lucas was not rich enough, he sure is now.
The Walt Disney Company has announced that it is acquiring Lucasfilm Ltd, which is currently 100-percent-owned by the Star Wars
creator, for $4.05 billion in cash and stocks. The deal will include
the rights for both Star Wars and Indiana Jones film franchises, as well
as other Lucasfilm properties like Industrial Light & Magic and
Skywalker Sound.
Disney also announces
that “Star Wars: Episode 7″ is being laid out, with a target release in
2015. The media giant (whose portfolio also includes ESPN, Pixar,
Marvel, and ABC) also plans on releasing a “new Star Wars feature film
every two to three years.”
An investor conference call will be held tomorrow (October 31st).
