CineMode |
We’ve all done it before, perhaps even more than once. You are
inside a dark cinema about to watch a movie and despite the signs posted
and the constant reminders projected on the screen, you did not turn
your mobile phone to silent. You even checked your phone, updated your
Facebook status, checked-in on Foursquare, or text (or call) your
friend.
A new smartphone app wants you to switch your phones to vibrate… and
be rewarded for it. CineMark, a major operator of movie theaters in the
United States, has launched CineMode. The app, which is available for
both iPhone and Android, encourages moviegoers to keep their phones silent in exchange for digital coupons that are sent directly to their smartphones.
Once installed, users are asked to let CineMode run in the
background, especially if you are inside the cinema. A brief message
then appears on the theater screen just before a movie begins,
triggering your smartphone’s screen to dim instantly and prompt
customers to turn the phone to vibrate mode.
If CineMode remains running for the entire length of the film, users
will receive a digital coupon through the app, which can be found in the
“Rewards” section.
With CineMode, it pays to be courteous.
