"Aakash 2, the $21 Android Tablet, Now Out in India"

Aakash 2 Android Tablet

It’s better late than never.
Datawind may have missed its April 2012 launch for the next-gen sub-$100 Android tablet, but the Aakash 2 will finally be a reality as it is released in India just in time for the country’s National Education Day (November 11th).

The Aakash 2 has gone a long way from its first reported specs, now running on Android 4.0.3 instead of 2.3. It packs a 7-inch touch screen, 1GHz Cortex A8 processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of Flash storage, built-in WiFi, and a front-facing VGA shooter.
Another welcoming update to this device is the pricing. Even with upgraded hardware, this barebones Android slate is being shipped to Indian students for just 1,130 rupees (around $21), close to half of its supposed cost had it been released on time. Outsides, meanwhile, would be able to snag one for a non-subsidized cost of $80.
