"Nokia’s Lumia 920 Ad Channels Apple’s 1984 Commercial"

Nokia’s Lumia 920 Ad Channels Apple’s 1984 Commercial

Putting out advertisements that attack the competition is nothing new. Apple did it on January 1984 when it channeled the novel “Nineteen Eighty-Four,” where Macintosh was “saving humanity” from conforming with IBM computers, telling consumers to “Think Differently.”

Nokia is attempting to do the same, promoting its Lumia 920 at the expense of the iPhone. The animated spot for the so-called “anti-iPhone” takes Apple’s 1984 advertisement to modern times, featuring lifeless individuals queuing for a smartphone with “5″ in its display.
Once the hero reaches the store’s counter, he uttered one word that sent shockwaves throughout the establishment: “Colors.” Blasphemy, as if the store clerk and other customers would say based on their reactions. The ad concludes with colorful people holding their just as colorful Lumia 920s.
“For better or worse, phone manufacturers have turned to attacking the Apple and the iPhone rather than simply advertising their phones,” Matt Burns of TechCrunch lamented. Well, Apple does attack other phones… by suing them for patent infringement. Just saying.
