"Ikea Plans to Sell Only LED-Based Lighting"

Ikea

Furniture chain Ikea has announced that it will be eliminating from its stores all non-LED lighting by 2016 in an effort to advocate greener, cleaner energy. This phase-out would make Ikea the first major home furnishing shop with branches in the United States to ban less efficient lighting from their shelves.

To entice consumers to go green in their lighting choices, Ikea also plans on offering the “lowest price on the market” for LEDs. In an industry where any non-incandescent lighting fixtures carry a premium, this could send shockwaves.
“LED lighting consumes 85% less energy than incandescent bulbs and can last up to 20 times longer,” Ikea stated in its press release, echoing a report from Wakefield Research. “But, in fact, only 27% of Americans know that LED bulbs last 20 years.”
Ikea will also walk the talk by changing all of its light sources inside their stores to LED and other more efficient lighting.
