"Samsung Unveils First Windows 8 Smartphone"

Samsung Ativ S

Fresh from its victory in Japan against Apple, Samsung has unveiled a first in its smartphone lineup: a mobile device that runs on Windows Phone 8. The Ativ S was introduced during the IFA in Berlin and has been viewed as a step towards Samsung’s future in rejecting Android to avoid nasty and expensive patent battle against Apple.

The Samsung Ativ S looks similarly to the Galaxy S III, the company’s current flagship Android smarpthone. The Ativ S features a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera. It is 8.7mm thick, so thin Samsung called it a “chic hairline design” during the unveiling.
The Ativ S takes advantage of Windows Phone 8’s latest features, including support for NFC and a microSD card slot for expandable storage.
This latest Samsung device will be available in 16GB and 32GB models. No release date has been confirmed.
