"YouTube Video Reveals Nexus 7 Tablet’s 'Smart Cover' Sensor"

Nexus 7 Magnet Sensor

Apparently, Google’s Nexus 7 tablet has a secret feature that it does not want other people (especially the good guys at Apple) to know. A YouTuber has posted a video showing how the tablet puts its display to sleep once it comes to contact with a magnet. You cannot help but think this feature is similar to iPad’s Smart Cover.

The functionality works by gliding a magnet along the bezel by the bottom left of the device. Such a feature is rarely found on Android tablets, even those that sport magnetometers, which are used for e-compasses.
It remains a mystery whether this feature would hint about Asus’ coming up with its own version of a Smart Cover for Google Nexus 7.
