Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 |
The Honourable Colin Birss, the same U.K. judge who told Apple that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is “not as cool”
as the iPad, orders Apple to publish a notice on its website and in
British newspapers telling the public about the ruling that Samsung did
not copy designs from the iPad.
According to Judge Birss, this should correct the damaging impression
that the South Korean company was copying Apple’s products. The notice
should remain posted on Apple’s U.K. website for six months and
published in a number of newspapers and magazines.
You can say that Apple is being ordered to publish an advertisement
of sorts for Samsung and Apple’s lawyers were adamant regarding the
decision. “No company likes to refer to a rival on its website,” said
Richard Hacon, one of Apple’s legal representatives, to the court.
We cannot help but suspect that Apple will likely insert the judge’s
now-popular quotation in the decision into the notice: that Galaxy
tablets “do not have the same understated and extreme simplicity which
is possessed by the Apple design; they are not as cool.”
