With the rise of downloadable music and movies, the popularity of CDs
and DVDs has been dwindling pretty quick. And what is even worse than a
bunch of discs still unsold in record store shelves? Your used shiny
plastic discs collecting dust in your abode as you listen music through
your fancy iPod and watch movies by streaming on Netflix.
Fujitsu plans to bring
those outdated media formats to good use. The company adapts a
recycling program that uses CDs and DVDs into new notebooks, starting
with the Lifebook P772/E enterprise laptop, with more models coming
soon. Fujitsu aims for the new program to reduce the use of new plastic
by as much as 10 tons annually and slash carbon dioxide emission by
around 15 percent.
Fujitsu also assures the public that its new recycling system follows
strict quality control measures to avoid contaminants from being mixed
into the recycled plastic.
“The Fujitsu Group is proud to promote the recycling of end-of-life
ICT products in Japan and around the world to help create a
recycling-minded society,” the company wrote in a press statement.
